Submitted for your approval: Ireland, 1729. The people of Ireland have begun consuming their children as dinner. Whether it is baked, boiled, or fried, the people of Ireland are now assuming that it is rational to eat children. Where did they come up with this idea? What would cause such mass hysteria in a country so torn by poverty and famine? Who would dare challenge the conventions and turn to cannibalism?

The answer is your target: Jonathan Swift.

In Swift's work "A Modest Proposal," the man calls for the inhumane treatment of children to provide nourishment for the whole of society. Working in a group of three, each of the members of your group will choose roles to help "solve the mystery" behind the motivation of Swift's cannibalism. Based upon the reading of Swift's supposed "pamphlet," doing inquiry based study on the the atmosphere in Ireland at the time, and your own creative minds, I know that the rights will be wronged and things explained. By this, I mean to suppose that you (and your group members) will inform me about a variety of things in relation to this piece of literature.
